Captain Pine Launches Fun Card Games to Foster Social-Emotional Learning

[Hong Kong] — [19th Dec, 2024] – Captain Pine is thrilled to announce the launch of its card games designed to help children understand and navigate their emotions. Founded by healthcare planner Emilie Wong, Captain Pine translates lessons learnt from child-care professionals and parents into fun products that everyone knows how to play.

In collaboration with MindBridge, a local social enterprise dedicated to improving self-awareness and family relationships, Captain Pine will host facilitated experience sessions during the prototype display at Tinwell Playground, 2/F, Qube, PMQ, from December 21, 2024, to January 1, 2025. These sessions will provide parents and children with valuable tools to enhance their emotional connections.

About Captain Pine

Inspired by her own childhood experiences and a passion for emotional well-being, healthcare planner Emilie Wong, with experience in both Canada and Hong Kong, undertook extensive research in child development. Her time volunteering in Cambodia, where she observed the challenges faced by orphans, further fueled her desire to create tools that foster emotional intelligence in children.

"At its core, Captain Pine combines fun games with important messages that 5-year-old Emilie needed to understand years ago," says founder Emilie Wong. "Everyone has a unique emotional learning journey, but I realized that many adults aren't aware of their emotional needs. How can the next generation enjoy discussing emotions?"

Brand Beliefs

Captain Pine is rooted in four key beliefs:

  1. There is no right or wrong in emotions. Accepting oneself is the first step toward understanding emotions.

  2. We can choose how we feel. Knowledge of comfortable emotional options empowers choice.

  3. Engaging play is the best way to learn. Fun, interactive experiences help reinforce emotional learning.

  4. Emotional connections with adults help kids grow. Strong connections with caregivers shape emotional and behavioral patterns.

Game Highlights

  1. Unfortunate Events
Players collect sets of cards composed of an Event, Venue, and Feeling, declaring 'Storytime' to share how an event may lead to a particular emotion. The goal is to be the first to play all of their cards or to collect the most sets, with opportunities for reflection and discussion about feelings after the game.

  2. Emoji Puzzle
Players can discuss mixed feelings and varying intensities of emotions related to each scenario by using puzzles of facial expressions. This activity aims to highlight the complexity of emotions beyond commonly understood emojis, making it enjoyable for children to engage in meaningful discussions.
